Information for travelers - Coronavirus COVID-19

The Chief Epidemiologist recommends that all residents of Iceland avoid all travel abroad while during the COVID-19 epidemic.

Residents of Iceland (of any nationality) or Icelandic citizens who live abroad who travel here during the epidemic, need to self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. See Instructions for persons under quarantine. If you experience any respiratory symptoms, especially with fever, you should contact your primary health care center or Laeknvakt helpline at phone number 1700. Also, please do not visit a clinic or hospital directly without calling first. In case of an emergency, call 112.

The Chief Epidemiologist encourages individuals currently traveling abroad to:

  • Consider returning home as soon as possible.
  • Monitor travel restrictions and restrictions on social activities made by the local authorities and adjust travel plans accordingly.
  • Practice good personal hygiene, especially thorough hand washing.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if access to water and soap is limited. Water and soap is always preferred if hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid close contact with people with common cold symptoms or cough.
  • Avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes with unwashed hands.
  • Use a cloth/tissue to cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing and wash your hands regularly. Discard properly of used tissue paper.
  • Avoid contact with live or dead animals and their waste
